Gorgeous Cigar Jewelry Box

Create a unique jewelry box for yourself or as a Valentine’s Day present for someone you love. Using a cigar box, fabric, yarn, ribbons, lace, fancy papers, cabochons and more, fashion a bespoke vessel for sparkles and treasures. Bring photos from home if you wish to incorporate them; otherwise, all materials will be provided. Taught by artist Linda Jensen.

Bring those pieces and join artist Sara Kerr to learn how to stylishly mend your clothing with visible mending, appliqué patching, and Sashiko stitching. You can also learn how to shorten jeans with the original hem. You’ll keep more clothing from being thrown away OR out of the dump! No previous sewing experience necessary.

Make a Wearable Art Car for the MayDay Parade

Be in the Minneapolis MayDay Parade with the ArtCars and ArtBikes! Work with artists Tara Fahey and Kallie Melvin to create a fanciful structure from cardboard – from batmobiles to spaceships. Some artful reuse materials will be available to decorate, and you will get a 10% discount code to purchase any additional materials you want at the nearby ArtScraps store. Then join the parade on Sunday, May 4 for a celebration of spring and community.

Create a Mini Book, Unique Greeting Card

Make a mini book, a unique greeting card that tells a story. By stitching an extra page into a card, you will create more space to play with. Visual artist and poet Marie Olofsdotter will help you write a brief poem inspired by Mother’s Day, or any other theme close to your heart. Embellish the card using collage, stamping, stickers, and more, and walk away with a cherished gift for someone special.

Bespoke Upcycled Bookmarks

Work with artist and librarian Cami Andersen as you learn how to incorporate recycled found textures, photos, and old illustrations to make eye-catching placeholders for your personal library.

Come celebrate spring at ArtScraps with an evening of art, poetry, and light refreshments. Curated by Patrick Hansel, author of The Devouring Land and Quitting Time. Patrick has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and was part of the Mentor Series for the Loft Literary Center. Each poetry night will feature three different poets. All readings are free, but registration is required
